Autogun
Just got a Pre Sample HK MP5 . this is a early gun 9/73 date No date code says made exclusively for Saco Arl. Va. Finish is a dull Gray almost like parkerized. Serial number does not have a pre-fix. My question is would this be the factory finish? Ryo
Yes, maybe, no. One of those answers would be correct. Photos would be more helpful. There's no way we can tell if it's original factory finish without see it.. even then a quality job might be difficult to tell.

Probably factory--- would need to see pictures in natural lighting. Sounds like it is in the 87XXX range. PM to you. Tony
Got Uzi
I was thinking they were a darker cooler. Later ones, like my 1979 has the original “blue/grey” finish on it.
AGG
PM received--- thanks. Appears to be correct--- factory MP5's that I have seen (1966-1973) were parkerized, while 1974+ were paint over parkerization. The various paint shades included shiny black (1974-1976), blue-gray (1976-1983), "matte" black (1984-1988), and "deep" NATO black (1989+). har1690
I have a dealer sample dated 12/72 and like yours pictured it does not have the scope lugs on the top of the receiver. Mine has the shiny "bluing" for paint. I do believe my paint is original. Rob
b_san
Maybe it's just bad lighting but it looks to me like all the edges and engraving has been buffed down like it's been refinished. Need better pics to decide one way or the other.
