Suomi Mag fitting 70, is that normal?

Just picked up my first Suomi mag for a Lage Max upper I have coming in.  Loaded it tonight and it only fit 70 instead of 71.  I assume that this is fine but I wanted to check first.  Thanks.

Don't know about Suomi drums but on some if not most Shpagin drums the 71st round takes a bit of cramming.

I don't count the rounds. I just keep filling until it is full. One round more or less wont make a difference.

That's what I do.. Stack them close and tight.  No idea how many rounds.. But now I'm wondering.

+/- a round I wouldn't be too concerned about.

You may have to file the lug on the mag a little to get it to fit in the groove on the Lage, though.

I think they vary because they have been rebuilt and the feed ramp inside makes contact with the snail stop differently. I have 7 of these and they range from 67-72 rounds. I even have one that won’t click into the last notch so if you want to load the final 10 rounds or so you have to hold it manually. These are mostly made in the 30s and 40s. I doubt many warfighters were round counting.

I believe those Suomi devices are generally recognized as the finest drum magazines ever made for any weapon. It was a stroke of genius for Lage to build uppers for them.
