West Hurley M1927A1 Thompson Conversion Serial Number 7633

This Thompson Submachine Gun, a converted West Hurley Model of 1927A1, serial number 7633 was manufactured in December, 1978 by Auto-Ordnance in West Hurley, New York as a Thompson Semi-Automatic Carbine, and subsequently converted by AWA Mfg. in Louisville, Kentucky to a transferable machine gun prior to May 19, 1986.  It is roll stamped on the left side of the receiver, "MODEL OF 1927 A1," and “THOMPSON SEMI-AUTOMATIC CARBINE,”  indicating its original configuration with the conversion company name engraved inside the receiver drum cut, just under the ejector.

This Thompson just finished being inspected and cleaned, had the wood conditioned, and several other updates were performed by Dan Block.  The front sight is pinned, and the rear sight riveted.  The magazine catch is updated to accept GI magazines without modification.  The solid GI buffer was modified to feature a urethane sandwich, to decrease receiver wear.  Chambers on West Hurley guns were originally manufactured to pistol specifications, which in many cases cause reliability issues, but this chamber has been opened to improve reliability.  The bolt handle was modified so that it doesn't ride up into the lock position, which was a feature of the bolt hold open in the original semi-automatic function of this firearm.  The lower frame has had its original West Hurley parts replaced with GI parts.  This Thompson is a much more desirable full auto conversion than the Broadhead Armory firing pins that were used to convert many other 1927A1s.

A video is available showing this Thompson being fired by Dan at the link below.

The weapon comes with one Taiwanese L-Drum (50 round drum).  The Taiwanese drums are much more reliable than West Hurley or currently manufactured Kahr drums.  This would be an excellent shooter gun for a beginning collector, or for someone who wants to preserve their higher condition Thompson, and have another one to use for Thompson shoots and subgun matches.
