M38A1-Josh
This is your opportunity to own a rare, historic, shootable, towed gun. Price: $80,000.00 Location: Just south of Pittsburgh, PA. What's included: - 1 restored, functional, NFA registered 1942 US 3 Inch M5 Anti-Tank Gun registered destructive device - 1 copy of a letter from the Army addressed to me stating that this gun is NOT a monument gun or part of the Army donation program, it references every serial number on the gun - 1 oil filling/release tool and hand pump - 1 nitrogen filling tool and bottle adapter - 1 respirator adjusting tool - 1 adjustable travel lock that bolts to the sleigh - 1 inert display cartridge - several usable cases and projectiles (exact count TBD) - primer tubes and components - 4 short cases for blanks - 1 original drill round with fiber tube - extra touch up paint - 2 handspikes - 1 cleaning rod set - 2 aiming stakes with vinyl post-war case - 1 57mm direct fire telescope with steel case and custom mount - 1 original indirect fire telescope with mount, steel case, canvas cover, and working light attachment - 2 original direct fire telescopes that need restored, no mount - 1 spare M13 firing lock - 1 WWII artillery tool chest - 1 lug nut wrench and handle - 1 barrel taillight - 1 original arm guard, not restored or painted, I don't like the look of them on these guns so I never installed it - printed technical manuals in 3 ring binders It is currently on my NFA trust in PA. It is not C&R eligible. In state transfer would be a Form 4. Out of state transfer would be a transfer to a dealer than a Form 4 to the buyer. This gun has gone through a nut and bolt restoration over several years done by myself. It has been test fired. A lot of the work has been documented on the forums. All axle T&E seals are new. T&E mechanisms were all taken apart, cleaned, and greased. All grease fittings are even new. The bore is in very good condition with very strong rifling. It shows pitting and age in some exterior places but the severe rust in the sleigh bed and typical right leg bottom rust was cut out and replaced with new metal. The tires and tubes are new. The counter-balance springs are new. The recoil mechanism has had seals replaced and a few small oil leaks persist, which require a quick oil level check before shooting. There are no nitrogen leaks. I even parkerized the breech block and all its parts before assembly and paint. To start shooting you will need to procure your own artillery powder, black powder, and 50 BMG primers. I am not able to sell my powder which I purchased on my FEL but I can provide contact info for my local source. FEL is required to purchase from him. The only modifications that are not original are the brakes and taillights. The original brakes were upgraded to modern 12V trailer brakes. Off the shelf backing plates were modified and custom drums were made. Vintage taillights are mounted on the back (not a permanent modification), allowing you to safely tow this gun to the range or a car show behind your modern truck or SUV equipped with a 7 pin connector and brake controller. The original brake battery box on the right trail leg was not replaced. The only trade deal I would be interested in is a WWII US 37mm anti-tank gun + cash from the buyer. The 37mm could be a project gun that can be restored to a shooter, but the important parts need to be present and functional. M38A1-Josh
Had a good time displaying the gun at the WWII American Experience museum in Gettysburg, PA this past Saturday. They had their big annual event. Reenactors, flea market, tank rides, demonstrations, etc... https://visitww2.org/ The gun looks perfect behind a Chevy G506.
