Creating a list of eligible government museums willing to take unpapered guns?

Recommended Posts

Good evening everybody,

I posted this on the MGboard forum, but I figured I might as well repost it here for a wider set of available input.

I  do want to preface that it’s non of my business what persons do or do not decide to keep in their attic.

However in the cases of families who are cleaning out an estate, ect.  I figured it might be wise to create a list of government museums that in the past have accepted historically significant unpapered guns on a form 10.

I’ve seen it claimed that the Virginia War Memorial has done it a number of times and that historically (2014) Jesse Smith was the guy to talk to over there. (According to their website he’s still there but I’m not sure he’s in the same position).

what's wrong with selling to someone who can demil it and give the family green coupons.  Most "kits" live again.  Just my feelings on the subject.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that in most cases. But as to your point of having them live again, I’d point to the Ship of Theseus.
I.E. if a sten comes out of an attic that’s one thing, I hate seeing anything getting cut up, but they’re not exactly rare. But if it’s an original volksturm mp 3008, of which only 10,000 were made, a mk 42 b, preproduction mg42, ect that’s imo a different story, and should be avoided at all costs.

Jesse is a close friend of mine and is still at the VA War Memorial and still accepting unpapered guns. Probably his best “save” was EE Richardson’s personal ‘21 Thompson.
