BillR
I have a 3 lug SCRC MK 25 suppressor for a factory original MP 5 SMG. and trying to obtain information on maintenance and estimated value for a local PD. The suppressor came with the gun when transferred to the PD in 1990 from Springfield Armoy. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bill R
jrh
It is built like a AWC MK9. Tim Bixler worked with AWC when they were in Houston. it should come apart if it isn’t welded together from use. Most new people to C3 don’t remember the name or company or know the quality. Another down side to value is it is LARGE compared to the new 9mm cans, but probably quieter. I had one years ago and regret selling. you could probably have it recored and cut to MK9K or smaller size. BillR
Thanks for the information. I read about Tim Bixler and his input and understand they were quite good in the day. I have had it apart to clean and it appears fine (tough part was getting the disassembly tool which we finally found in the armory.) It is quite on the large size compared to today’s suppressors but is very quiet with subsonic ammunition. Would you have any idea of value? The department is possibly going to sell it but as a package deal… Factory H&K MP5 SMG (dated 1978), the suppressor, 2 original metal magazines and soft case. jrh
Just my opinion, but there really is no value in the can. It is 25-30 year old technology. Since only us "old people" know the name and company, you may could sell it for $200-400 if you are lucky, or you may get to use it and shoot it because you can't sell it. If you have to show a detail number to the PD I wouldn't put more than $200 on it. Again, it's BIG, old, and used. If. you have little to no money in it, contact Joe Jones at Thunder Can Suppressors. He may recore and cut it down to MK9K or shorter size. You still probably couldn't get your money out of it but would make you a nice short modern suppressor. Your money is the MP5. MPFiveO
Back in the day the AWC MK9 was the one all others were judged by. I remember a few guys having them and they were a pleasure to shoot. The MK9K made an already great suppressor into a slightly more manageable package. While technology and material choices have advanced a great deal the MK9 is still one of the best that ever was. As mentioned, there's not a great market for used suppressors unless they are a certain model made by a certain manufacturer. Original MAC and Sionics suppressors fall into this category. Everything else is pretty much like an old cell phone, practically worthless. Some products become outdated quickly as technological improvements occur and, like cell phones, suppressors are one of those products. If I had to say it was worth something I'd say between 100 and 200 depending on condition. Most guys hate the fact that some new suppressors are only a couple of hundred dollars and they have to pay for a 200 dollar tax stamp on top of that. This seems to be an illogical but common reason for guys to spend 1000 to 2000 on a suppressor because the tax doesn't seem as punitive at that point. Guys just feel cheated that they had to pay 200 in taxes for their 200 dollar suppressor. And most feel like used suppressors should be given away like ripe bananas.

You could add KAC suppressors to that list of suppressors that are desirable, regardless of their age.
