Things That Go Boom
Will be giving up my SOT2 in a few months. Have a pre-May dealer sample factory Galil SAR (5.56) that I’ve been told is a keeper. As I understand it, it can now be sold to another SOT (maybe just a an SOT2) without them having to have a law letter (since I’m giving up my SOT). I purchased it via a law letter I had. Am I right about all of this? If I were to sale it, what is a reasonable price? It’s factory and in excellent condition. Sidewinder/folder. I’ve only fired 1 mag thru it since I’ve owned it. thanks in advance for any help! Chef
If it's a pre-may, you shouldn't have to had to use a law letter to buy it, so that's very confusing. I'd ask for clarification of it's registration status before I did anything with it. The value between being a pre-may and a postie is huge, so it's important to find out. Uncle Zeek
As Chef said, if it's a pre-86 dealer sample, you shouldn't have needed a law letter in the first place when you bought it. The distinction of the pre-86 sample guns are 1) no law letter is needed, 2) you can keep them after you give up your SOT, and 3) can still sell to another SOT later on. While you have your SOT, you can do an e-form 3, but after giving up your SOT, you have to do a taxed form 4. None of this requires a law letter. What color does the Galil show up in your eforms? Things That Go Boom
Y’all are right. Now that I think back, I didn’t acquire it via law letter. The SAR is orange on Eforms and says “imported for use as a sales sample.” any thoughts on approx value?
Chef
Pictures would help, but if you have all the original parts for it (most buyers prefer guns in their original configuration) probably in the $20-$25k range.

AGG
Pictures of serial number and markings would help. Tony
BDMERC
Look at the recent average sales prices of transferable Galil's on the machine gun price guides and consider a pre may to be at least half of that value. I would send a letter or email to NFA before offering it for sale, just to be sure it has not been reclassified as a transferable.
