Grafs Reloading has both in stock. Bannerman Brand. Don't choke at the price.

Japan had two 7.7 kinds of ammo, Rimmed and unrimmed. Make sure you get the right one for your gun.

7.7 JAP is the same as .303.

This isn't entirely correct...

"The 7.7 mm cartridge used by the Japanese versions of the British guns is a direct copy of the . 303 British (7.7×56mmR) rimmed cartridge and is distinctly different from the 7.7×58mm Arisaka rimless and 7.7×58mm Type 92 semi-rimmed cartridges used in other Japanese machine guns and rifles."

See linked images for cartridge differences. NEVER shoot a cartridge in a firearm it wasn't designed for.

Other than some 12 guage with an uncle 35 years ago....I have never reloaded.

Not sure that I would trust my precision to be qualified and safe.

My local gun shop is in the final stage of getting approvals to reload commercially.   They said they will reload unusual calibers if parts are available.

For many years I have reduced the rim of semi-rimmed Japanese made T92 HMG stripper ammo to make it "rimless" and used in T99s. It is "hard" brass and sometimes cracks but that is the only drawback I have encountered with many, many rounds. It is corrosive so hot water cleaning of parts exposed to the gases is imperative. Works fine.
There is a lot of this ammo around and it is quite inexpensive.

Bubba,

Thanks for sharing.

I have huge respect for your expertise and knowledge with older guns.

I reloaded 12ga shells with my uncle, but have never reloaded brass.

Graf & Sons has current production 7.7.  So while it isn't inexpensive...it probably suits my inexperience better.

Thanks

Scott

Scott, you really should look into reloading if you want to shoot a sizeable quantity of ammo through mil-surp rifles. The advantage is not only cost savings over factory ammo but you can shoot mild loads that will extend the life of your brass. Lots of older shooters use hardcast lead bullets and immensely enjoy plinking with them.

I reload for my Type 38 Arisaka rifle in 6.5 Jap. My favorite thing to do is bust jugs of water at 100 yards with it like I did as a kid with my grandfather who gave me the rifle.

Anyway, something to consider if you want to keep shooting.
