Smith & Wesson light rifle 1940 MKII

Recommended Posts

We have a rare S&W  1940 British light rifle for sale.  This is the updated second model MKII rifle which is supposedly one of 72, of which I have two.   We have test fired this high quality piece and gone through it and it works flawlessly.   These guns/contract are the reason S&W exists today as they were about bankrupt at the beginning of the war.  The history on these is quite amazing as is the construction and design.  The quality of machining, fluted barrel and other features far outdo any other British gun.  These are C+R and NFA exempt.

Priced at $7500

SBR, open bolt, all NFA exempt because it's WW2 C+R with a listed ATF exempt status due to rarity, historical significance, etc.  The non-refundable payment by the British effectively saved S&W from bankruptcy....and the rest is history!  The next step would have been select fire, but the cost due to the workmanship and high quality doomed this gun from the start.   What appears to be a magazine housing is actually half ejection port chute that drops spent casings out the bottom.
