Price Drop: Documented Guantanamo Bay Naval M1 Garand

Recommended Posts

Description : A WWII July 1943 Springfield Armory M1 Garand that was reworked by the US Navy in 1965 to 7.62 NATO (7.62x51mm [.308]). These conversions were performed on US government contract by Harrington & Richardson in Worcester, MA and American Machine & Foundry in York, PA by using specially contracted barrels produced in 1965 and 1966 by Springfield Armory. These rifles were tested and calibrated at the Naval Weapons Facility at Crane, IN and became designated as the US Rifle MK2Mod1. All original USGI with an excellent, surplus wood stock set, retains original and desirable early lock-bar sights. All observable parts are marked Springfield Armory. Throat erosion and muzzle erosion measure at like-new 0/0. Complete with all CMP paperwork.

This rifle is unique in that a US Navy Freedom of Information Act request revealed the rifle was originally issued to Naval Air Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. A FOIA request pertaining to M1 Rifle, Springfield Armory, Serial No. 1840139 to the Department of the Navy, Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana reveals that Records for Serial Number 1840139 were found in the DoD Small Arms/Light Weapons Registry. These records first document the rifle on 04/02/1975 when it was transferred from Naval Air Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana. The next transfer of the rifle was on 02/03/2020 when it was transferred from Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana to Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Anniston, Alabama. The rifle was then sold by the CMP to myself in May 2024. I immediately submitted a FOIA request to the Department of the Army and the Department of the Navy. The Army FOIA turned up blank, but the Navy FOIA did not disappoint.

Accessories : This rifle will be shipped in the CMP hard case it was originally sold in. Included in the package is the hardcopy CMP Paperwork and all accessories originally provided by the CMP. Additionally, this rifle will ship with the hardcopy US Navy documentation that authenticates it as a rifle that was issued to Naval Air Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Selling Terms : USPS MO preferred, shipped USPS with tracking provided. Must ship to FFL (C&R accepted). Will also accept PP/FF, no note.

Price : $2,500 shipped in a hard case.
