NE Ohio DD shoot, mortar and 40mm competition/meet-up. June 28

Save the date. June 28th.

Myself, with the help of some friends are planning a range day focused on DD shooting. With the main events being a mortar competition and a 40mm grenade launcher competition. We already have some sponsors offering great prizes for the competitors. There will also be vendors on site selling 40mm Ammo and possibly some other cool stuff.

Competition rules are still being written.
Plan on up to 6 rounds of mortar ammo. Giving you plenty of time to walk rounds as close as you can to a bullseye. Team can consist of 1-3 people so you can have 2 spotters or however you'd like to organize your team. Lone entries are permitted and you can also recruit a spotter or two at the event. If you own multiple mortars, you can enter each one as a separate entry.

Plan on 10rds of 40mm chalk rounds. Minimum projectile weight of 2oz if you make your own. Multiple targets to engage. Only counting hits on target.

The rest of the day will be open range time and demonstrations. I believe there is a 25mm AT gun coming to the shoot, and there may be a couple more AT guns. We should also have an RPG or two doing live fire demonstrations.

The only big limitations will be room on the firing line. So you likely won't be able to have a reserved spot set up for the day. So we'll take turns on the line for the competitions and throughout the day. A side bay may be opened up if we need it for smaller stuff like 40mm practice and fun.

Location for this event is planned for southington hunt club in Garrettsville, OH. And if it goes well then we may plan for a bigger event/facility next year. Of course liability waivers will be required by the range.

More details and a ticket link will come later. But I wanted to get the date out there so people can plan ahead. I know my wife and work already have the rest of the summer planned.

It's on our calendar.  We will be there giving out a few free hats and t-shirts plus whatever is allowed out of our inventory.  Really hoping to bring our 1964 Marine M9 Flamethrower to demonstrate.  Oh, I'll be bringing our 225mm Bowling Ball mortar too.  What distance will the competition be for the mortars?

Range will be under 200yds for mortars and GL. The bowling ball mortar would be a blast.

There is a pond on the range that may be suitable to shoot the flame thrower over. I just need to get permission from the range owner.

200 yards is no problem for the bowling ball mortar.  Definitely bringing that baby.

  • SGT Fish changed the title to NE Ohio DD shoot, mortar and 40mm competition/meet-up. June 28

Update with some additional information.

The facility's 700yd precision rifle range and their Roger's reactive pistol range(pop-out steel targets) will be open and available for use. If a spectator wants to use those ranges, they'll need to pay the $40(50 total) shooter range fee to the facility instead of the $20(30 total) spectator fee.

The 700yd range has some requirements. It's a precision range and not just a general blasting range. So make sure you check the SHC website for those requirements and restrictions.  The Roger's range has only permitted certain ammo in the past. But last time we were there they let everyone shoot FMJ so who knows.
