Tony Lawson
Just had a buddy reach out asking what the current resale value of a S&W M76 would be. I know there are variables but just in general. Thanks in advance. -TL
jbntex
Assuming your buddy is not an FFL/SOT much less a well know FFL/SOT so its a buying from a stranger and a paper Form 4 transfer to the buyer's dealer or the buyer directly (if the buyer happens to be in the same State) I would say that if he wants to sell it in any reasonable time frame (less than 30 days) it needs to be priced between ~$14K and ~$16K. Anything less than $14K and it will sell close to right away, more than $16K and it will sit. Big dealers will probably offer you around $10K. A couple individual sale F4 2024 comps Sold in one month for $14.7K https://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37381-sw-mod-76-transferable-sold/#comment-130858 Sold in three weeks for $14.9K https://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/37381-sw-mod-76-transferable-sold/#comment-130858 Dealer F3 gun listed for $17K sold in a month but doesn't say what it actually sold for. https://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/38439-spf-very-nice-smith-model-76-smg-2-mags-1700000/#comment-135521 If you buddy has time on his hands and isn't in a hurry to sell, it can't hurt to list on the higher end at ~$17K and drop it $500 every two weeks. Maybe you will get lucky and find the right guy who has to have it right here right now and an extra grand or two doesn't mean squat to him, or you may end up sitting on it for 2 to 3 months until the price drops into the $14K to $15K range and then the right motivated buyer comes along. Huckleberry
I sold mine approximately 3 years ago as a non dealer to a gentlemen in the same state as me- It sold for 17.5. I believe I was one of the first to get ludicrous money for one- the going price at the time was 14-15. I had the gun reparked by John Andrewski prior to selling. I had previously tried to sell the gun for 9.5 k but all i got were tire kickers and dealers trying to tell me it was only worth 7. The gun had a small cut in the frame below the tube and was a full auto only gun. I told people it was a steal at 9.5 . The going price at that time was around 13-14. People wanted me to discount it due to the cut and the fact that it was full auto only. I decided to have the cut welded and repaired and have the gun reparkerized. I priced extremely high for the time because it looked so pretty I didnt want to sell it- He paid full asking price and since I didnt shoot it very much or very often, I let it go. I miss her occasionally but ..........I bought a lot of stuff with the money. Its a factory machine gun that unfortunately doesnt get the recognition that it deserves. How a tube gun swedish k sells for 27-32 and a factory 76 sells for 17 .......I dont understand
