7 months on one of my transfers right now. It's the AFT, no rhyme or reason.

If this is a Form 4  from individual to SOT, and the payment has been charged, then I would contact the NFA branch.

I have done maybe 6 of these over the past 2 years and they have consistently been 5-8 weeks for approval.  The last one was approved 3 days ago and was 6 weeks from check clearing to approval.

Correct. I've contacted the dealer (MWT) a few times and they haven't been overly helpful. Myself and another forum member have both been waiting 6+ months at this point. Apparently they have 5 currently that are out this long.

Mwt has a lot of “Inbound” guns, is it possible that it was still inbound to them before they filled to you? Frank and Mike are pretty decent folks. Have you called them?

Yes it was inbound even prior to purchase (that's what this topic is about - Form 4 to SOT). And yes, both of us have called and asked.

Well, I'm still a new player in the SOT game, so take this for whatever you think it's worth.  Have had four paper forms 4 this year.  Three were approved and gun in my hands within 8-10 weeks.  The fourth took almost six months to get in my possession.

reputable dealers only sell what they have in hand, because there are 65 ways inbound guns don't end up inbound.   Last year we went 6-8 months on form 3's dealer to dealer.  There are no guarantees on transfers until the gun is in hand.

I have a gun I sold them that’s currently at 4-5 months. I’ve had a gun I bought from them take 6-8 months it’s not on them it’s the atf taking their time man.

My limited experience is that paper Form 4 to SOT wait times can significantly vary, just like paper Form 4s from SOT to individual can significantly vary in approval timeline.

My advice on Form 4 to SOTs is hope for 8 weeks but set your expectations for 8 months.  The reality is that 95% of those transfers types will be somewhere between those two guardrails unless you are really lucky or  unlucky.

As for  MWT, they will pretty much always say "Gun is inbound and should be approved any day now".  My experience is that the first part may be true but the second half about "any day now" never is.   The key is to ask them, "what is the date that the Form 4 went pending with the NFA branch" and then apply the 8 weeks to 8 months rule to understand when it will be approved to them.

Also with MWT, you need to add another month or two once approved for the gun to then get to your dealer.  Once that Form 4 is approved the current owner won't ship it until they receive the approved Paper Form 4 which can take up to another 30 days to reach their mailbox.  Then factor in the  time for the current owner to box up the gun and ship it to MWT  (and who can drag their feet on tendering the shipment to MWT), then factor in the actual shipment time from the current owner to MWT,  MWT has to submit the EForm 3 to your dealer,  once the EFORM 3 is approved to your dealer MWT then has to box up the gun and reship the gun to your dealer (which can sometimes take them a week or more), and finally there is the actual shipment time from MWT to your dealer.

All of this in my experience will add at least another month or more on top of the actual Form 4 to MWT approval date.

Good luck to the OP but all you can do is wait  for the F4 to be approved to MWT but just to set expectations, the rest of the approval and shipment process to your dealer once the Form 4 is approved to MWT isn't exactly always super quick either.
