Luftwaffe MG-FF/M T-60 20mm drum magazine

Recommended Posts

This is a uber-rare museum-grade collector's item!!!!  This is the T60 60rd drum magazine for the WWII LuftWaffe standard MG-FF(MG-FFM) aircraft mounted 20mm autocannon widely used across LuftWaffe aircraft from the start of the War. This museum-quality example is profusely marked with the full range of LuftWaffe RLM/'Reichsluftfahrt Ministerium', 'Fliergnummer', makers codes ('Fertigungskennzeichen') and other specific markings indicating updates to use with later MG-FFM ("Minengeschoß", i.e., "mine shell") cannon variant. This drum is clearly marked with the Fertigungskennzeichen marking 'dfb' indicating manufacture by the firm 'Gustloff & Co., Waffenfabrik-Suhl', most likely from their 'Gustloff Werk-Weimar'-susidiary factory, in Weimar, Thüringen.

The MG-FF autocannon was made by Ikaria-Werke-Berliner and was a near exact copy of the Swiss Oerlikon FF cannon, though using the slightly longer and more powerful 20x80mm RB cartridge. There existed drums of differing capacities from 15rd, 30rd, 45rd, 60rd, 90rd. capacity. Only the two smaller drums were ever used on flexible versions of the gun.

This specific example is undated as was the norm, but probably dates from late war production era due to the FFM marking. The condition is spectacular overall, with only the most minor indications on the latch ears of ever being mounted to a gun, and was probably never issued as there are no other indications of wear. There is a light frosting of very minor surface oxidation on one panel of the drum body which will clean easily.

This exceedingly rare drum would be highly suited to a museum collection display but remains fully functional in its original as-manufactured condition. Most of the museum collections holding MG-FF/M cannons are without the feed drum as these drums were almost universally destroyed in the aftermath of the War cleanup. Here is a chance to correctly complete a museum collection display with a real feed drum in pristine condition.
