AR10 barrel can not be new because it has British proof marks along with the Dutch proofs.  And pitting underneath a nice coating of mag phosphate.

The Dutch proofed the barrel by test firing and put various marks near the barrel extension.  The Brit barrel proofs are nearer the muzzle and were done after the rifle was surplussed.

The British Proofs would have been applied when Interarms moved the complete firearm through their British Warehouse for export. The proofs would also be “In the white” prior to barrel refinish.

I find it hard to not have ANY marks on the barrel where the pins would have been or barrel ring marks on the area where the barrel ring goes. So what you are saying is that the factory could not have pressure tested the barrel before putting it together? He has owned the barrel 40+ years this way, I also find it hard to believe there would be NO barrel gas erosion at the gas port hole, NONE? I do believe it is new. I have also seen the light pitting on other new barrels before.
