These were designed for use with Eotechs and allows for a more heads-up shooting position, much like modern high-rise mounts. Their most common use was with SWAT departments, as the extra height was perfect when using gas masks, but they have also been seen in the early stages of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the hands of both Blackwater contractors and Navy special forces.
