TKS
Was this originally made as an M1 or has it been converted to a M2?
Navgunner
My understanding is that these were converted by Plainfield Machine Company with a focus on law enforcement customers. Lots of information on the internet but unfortunately it’s just not my cup of tea so I’m not the best resource.

Going by the markings, this is a factory M2. Plainfield manufactured a semi-auto M1, a select-fire M2, and they also had a conversion kit for a time. http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_plainfield.html Edited June 13, 2022 by MontanaRenegade86

dellfree
i agree with the Montana Renegade, that appears to have the factory stamp of M2. I would not consider this a conversion, actually making it more desirable and worth a small amount more. Dell in Fort Worth
