Colt 639 CAR-15 with XM177 moderator as originally built by Colt Firearms.  A piece of history!  Excellent condition with low round count.  Two stamp gun since BATF considers the XM177 a silencer.  Firearm is currently on a Form 4.  Additional detailed photos available upon request.  $43,000.00.  Offers entertained.  Being listed for the owner by Dave Gilmore, JDG Enterprise 913-488-1459  dave.gilmore@sbcglobal.net

Can you post close-up pics of the markings on the mag well and on the moderator? Does the moderator have a "Colt" serial number or an ATF-issued/stamped serial number? (Like "ATF xxxx")

Dave, its a 2 stamp gun becaues of the 11 inch barrel, not the moderator. imo. I love the early Colt gray, shes a beaut.

Why would the 11-inch barrel need a tax stamp if it's on a machine gun that by definition has no barrel length restrictions?

The XM177 was deemed a silencer per the ATF because the ATF stated it had baffles inside that lower the dB eating of the firearm, even if Colt's original intention was only to increase back pressure for reliability reasons.

No.  It's a two stamp gun because BATF considers the moderator a silencer.  Just look at this weapon's Form 4s/Form 3s.  You will see one Form for a "Silencer" with serial number ATF 456XXX.

In 1976 ATF required the moderators to be registered as suppressors or exchanged for flash suppressors due to 4db sound reduction when 2db sound reduction is legal limitation. Seller is correct about these being two stamp guns. One for the machinegun, one for the suppressor.

Actually I believe the intent of the moderator was to disguise the sound signature of the CARs used by special forces to sound more like standard rifle fire during Vietnam
