Exploring more subguns, which to go for?

I don't really have interest in any of those. I am a bit younger and recall using certain subguns in video games and find it amazing to own the thing in real life.

Maybe it is time to move into rifle caliber guns. They definitely won't be shot much at all, those larger calibers are uncomfortable. I see lots of M16s and M16 conversions around, just want to get a decent value on it.

Thompsons and MP-40s are in the games.  :D

Some rifle caliber are fun to shoot, some are not.  M16 are on my list of less fun to shoot.. but Surefire has a BCG design from James Sullivan which makes it more tame. (shot it with one hand!).  I'm on the hunt for one of there.. waiting for my distributor get some some in stock..

What makes it better than the Thompson?

What I like about a grease gun over a thompson is is much lighter, slower cyclic rate, easier to stay on target!

MP44;  it is unique, cool and if you don't plan to shoot it much should not need a bunch of parts and mags which are VERY expensive.  Could be a great investment for you.

I definitely wouldn't mind having a MP44.. too bad it is currently out of my price range.  It's the grand daddy of modern firearms.

Soooo pretty sure autoweapons.com is the cat that caught a 5 year bid for improprieties w police dept. mp5’s? Think someone else runs it for him in absencia. I’ve never bought from them, but I have dealt with, discussed potential products I was interested in over the phone because he was in my state. He struck me as extremely rude, and very, very expensive. I was looking for a Mac in 2016 for $5-6k range which was the reasonable going rate for them then. He told me that I was crazy (in a very condescending tone) and that he was paying more for then that for them then as a dealer and his cheapest one started at $7800 which was $$$$ for that time.  I thanked him for his time and decided I’d never do business with them on anything at any price in the future. Bought a very nice PS 10/9 w 5 mags, a case and a s/n matching Mac two stage can and a bunch of accessories less then a week later for $6k LoL.

I inquired about two of their M2 Carbines several years ago. One was a Rock Island Armory and the other was a C&R Inland (I think). I nearly choked when I got a reply. It was astronomical what he wanted for them.

The next month, I bought my RIA M2 Carbine from Ruben for $6,995.

Shortly after I got my M2 from Ruben, I had heard that Vahan Kelerchian was pinched and convicted for various schemes. The guy is a total shitbag. I never understood how he made the Subguns "Recommended Dealer List".

ETA: I just checked the Autoweapons website and I believe the Rock Island Armory M2 I was interested in is still there. I inquired about it in February 2014. My God. At this point, I'd be surprised if these guys ever sold a single machinegun.

because you don't agree with a dealer's pricing isn't particularly cause for referring to him as a "shitbag".   Ask one of the few with an unobtainable HK416 upper what they think....because they wouldn't have one except for that deal.  Look up the case and decide for yourself instead of relying on what you think you may know?  They specialize in rare stuff, and for that you pay, if you want it.  They sell MACS as accessories, but not as part of the primary business.

He made the RDL because he follows through in a transaction and delivers what he sells/ sold in this case without worry to the buyer.  I've been in this a long time and the number of people I send money to without hesitation is pretty small.  Lots of guys promise and don't deliver or in your Carbine dealer's case maybe deliver something that is crap that was described as excellent....investment grade, yet was sawed in half and welded back together without mentioning it?

If you last long enough in the hobby, hopefully you'll learn more, because like everything else, this industry has history and what you think you may be learning on the internet is mostly BS.  People with a lot of knowledge and large collections left the web at least 10 years ago for the most part and more are leaving all the time.

If you had millions in inventory of rare stuff that took decades to amass , serviced your actual/regular customers (not the tire kickers, etc.), and delivered what you promised, how often would you post to a website and offer help to a guy who owns maybe 3 guns that referred to you as a "shitbag"?  Same goes with major collectors who are/were frequently told they don't know what they are talking about?

Best of luck, you younger guys are going to need it!

Think you should look in to grabbing a reising m50 or m55. They are on the cheaper side of transferables an I enjoy mine a lot they are little different I think undervalued personally, or a m10 when you get bored with the high rate of fire from it get a lage upper.

Just curious what did you mean leaving the internet?  They just stopped fussing with it or got tired or the BS, etc?

No, he's¹ a "shitbag" because he was tried and convicted for various criminal schemes. Tried and convicted by a jury of his peers.

I did the research and I can tell you this: had I been on his jury, I would have voted to convict him. I don't say that lightly. The guy is a pimple on the ass of our NFA community.

Ummmmm, no...There was one guy on the RDL (not VK) that tried to screw me over. He took my money for a machinegun, but didn't want to file the paperwork or communicate with me or my dealer. I gave him ample time to correct himself, but he failed to do so. When I got the ball rolling with law enforcement and the state consumer affairs office, he got straightened out post haste.

This guy was also a pimple on the ass of our community.

Oh, by the way, my first M2 Carbine came from Ruben Mendiola and was one of the more expensive Rock Island Armory Carbines on the market at that time. I can guarantee you that it was (and still is) in excellent condition, just like Ruben said it was. Ruben is A-OK in my book and was/is truly deserving of being a Recommended Dealer.

So I guess I shouldn't bother reading your posts because they are just some BS I found on the internet, right? :D

Over the past 14 years, I have spent countless hours researching NFA related things and finding ways to expand my ever growing collection of goodies.

When I didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to through it out of, I was making plans to one day be a part of this community. My free time went to research and my leftover money got stashed away for when an opportunity presented itself.

I've learned enough that when something comes along that I want, I can jump on it knowing exactly what I'm getting.

As far as I know, the guy we are talking about probably doesn't frequent gun forums. That would probably cause the warden or parole officer some heartburn, wouldn't you think? ;)

Just because one has or has had an FFL/SOT or owns a collection worthy of a King doesn't mean he is a subject matter expert. I've met a couple of pretty ignorant guys in this community. Thankfully, they are few and far between.

Just so we are clear: I firmly believe in making as much profit as possible, whenever possible. That applies to everybody.

There is no shame in making money. What amount somebody is willing to pay is what something is worth.

I wasn't willing to pay what I thought was a ridiculous amount of money for an M2 Carbine. That being said, I didn't fault the guy for asking what he thought his Carbines were worth.

...

For what it's worth, I haven't inquired about any firearm from Autoweapons since 2014. I am pretty sure they are under new management, and I have nothing to say, positive or negative, about them.

...

To the original poster, have you thought about a transferable AK of some kind?

Yes I'd definitely be interested in an AK of some sort. Would love a Krink! I haven't found anything decent online though, pricing is too high I see them sit for months.

It might be a good idea to ask yourself:

What are you willing to spend?

Is there anything in your collection you don't care for? Are you willing to trade/sell anything in your collection to get something new?

...

Looking at your original post, it sounds like you have a very nice collection. I am guessing you are into World War II to Cold War era firearms?

You ask good questions. I don't really care for the M2, it is picky with ammo and out of 30 mags I have for it only 4 work properly. Not that it is anything wrong with the gun, I discovered most are like this. Use the right mags and ammo and it dumps the whole mag, but still I don't care much for the look of it.

As for the spending, I'm not one to overpay even if I want the thing. Everything I got was because of an opportunity to acquire it for below market value.

I get the impression that more people dislike the M2 Carbine than like it. I've always enjoyed mine, probably due to the gun's interesting history. Anything associated with the Vietnam War and Special Forces history grabs my attention.

If the gun holds no appeal to you, you might consider selling it to partially finance something that does interest you.

As far as your second point, I totally get that. With the exception of my Rock Island M2, all my toys were acquired by finding the right deal at the right moment in time.

Good luck in your search.

Kristopher

I dislike my M2 carbine.

I dislike my Tommy gun.

You say you have an hk sear....well your SMG choice is simple- MP5k or MP5 hosts.... but I'll assume you already have those. If not then get them and stop overthinking. Clones are fine if you are a shooter more than a strict collector.

Sterling is a one smooth gun.. seriously better than a sten. ugly and old? yeah kinda.

also consider a mini uzi or even a micro uzi.....even if you have a full size. these latter two are nothing like the full size. Most rec' the mini...but I prefer the micro. I just dont let others shoot it bc its dangerous as heck.

Disliking the M2 makes sense, it isn't pleasant to shoot. But why the Tommy gun?

Yes I have MP5, SD, and K hosts.

The sterling is quite ugly, I got the Sten because it showed up in video games as a kid.

A mini Uzi I would definitely consider because of the stock, the Micro is too crazy.

tommy? its my least fav. smg out of dozen and 1/2 or so. I'm 6'2" but the pull/reach is too long. Its just heavy, clunky, slow, shoots 45 instead of 9mm. I bought it bc i was sick of people asking "do you have a tommy gun?" after taking them out shooting piles of mgs. hah. Stupids reason I know. Hey I love the history and the gun is cool LOOKING...but thats where it stops. I prefer the more  "modern" guns like the MP5.

Anyway...I just really never liked shooting the Tommy even though I own one.  I keep it only to have a well rounded smg collection.

Dont let the micro scare you if you are a smg guy- they are fine...better/easier to control than say a G19 auto pistol. Its wicked small and fast - which makes it interesting and fun. I wouldnt cross it off your list honestly. But most prefer the mini. I just happen to enjoy the micro for exactly what it is...tiny speed demon.

Yeah the sterling is ugly...but not as ugly as a Sten !!!!!!!

Well shit Houston, I thought the reason you didn’t like to let folks shoot that micro was you didn’t want ‘em catching VD off it! =D

^^^hah. Inside joke from Challenger.... My micro Uzi was once owned by TTI in Vegas and the FFL owner/maker was married to Marilyn Chambers - the original porn star so I've heard. There's a bunch of pics of her with the Uzis, etc. Many years ago after my purchase of it my wife was busting my chops saying how gross it was that I bought a porn stars gun. yada . yada. It was a great price...ugly as sin. Some wanker welded a random piece of pot iron to its rear and called it a stock. Sam at Practical Solutions turned it into the beauty it is today! And that my friends is the rest of the story on the mirco....

I would add an M-16 to the collection. It offers all kinds of future projects like Colt SMG, Colt LMG, M-4, Commando, A2, A1 variants, (shrike?). What did I leave out? I may have gotten bored with my Colt M-16s at times over the years, but all in all they have probably always been my favorite guns, and definitely the gun I would grab first if I ever had to use one. I am parting with all my class 3 stuff and I am pretty sure my remaining Colt M-16A1 with all my uppers is going to be the one I end up missing most.

I much prefer the HK *3 series to an M16, and for that matter my SAR80 as well.  As the OP already owns an HK sear, I'd make sure that a 33/33k/53 and perhaps an MM 23 were part of my host stable before moving on to other MGs.

OP - what hosts do you already have for your HK sear?

I am a normal sized guy and shooting 556 in full auto is not pleasant, so that's why I only have 9mm hosts like the MP5SD and MP5K, along with the MP5 it came with.

I'll have to agree with that.  FA 5.56 OR 308 is not fun to control when held fired. MP5 are so controllable.

Though Surefire has a BCG that is suppose to be a game changer for FA M16s, designed by Jim Sullivan. I want get one to try out but my distributor is out.

Ended up getting a M16A1!

Probably the better investment. Plenty of mags and replacement parts. Prices have stayed consistently high so unless you beat the hell out of it you can plan on it at least holding value.

On the transferable "fun to shoot" list, particularly 5.56 transferable guns, I would put it toward the bottom with the Ruger AC556F.

A transferable Beretta AR-70 is fun to shoot, and HK 91/33s  aren't bad. The FNC has a slower rate of fire and if you don't get annoyed with the sound of the recoil spring (even more annoying than the m-16, IMO) it can be a fun gun.

I won't be shooting the M16, it is just for fun to have and will probably be a decent investment. Subguns are just way more fun to shoot than any rifles for me.

I actually hate shooting the M16 in full auto.  It's just not fun like a sub gun, but with the Sullivan OBC (or Surefire OBC), it is suppose to make it much more fun to shoot the 5.56 round. Been waiting for RSR to get them back in stock to buy them. I've been waiting for months!  :(

They basically can allow you to shoot a M16 one handed which is remarkable. If you want to see one in action, look up Forgotten Weapon's interview with Sullivan.
