Pxt7916
Hi everyone, I just recently got my hands on a swiss sig 551-2 sp swat and am looking for the following swiss accessories. Please see below. - Original black sig 551 sling (with hook) - Swiss Sig bayonet lug - Swiss cheekrest/riser - Swiss under pictanny rail (for bottom of sig 551 handguard) - Swiss 20 or 30 mags with Law Enforcement marks (in very good to excellent conditions) - Sig 550/551 hardcase (small or medium size) Please PM me the condition and price and I'll text you back asap. Thanks! Edited May 1, 2019 by Pxt7916 Adding to the list
Mongo
No reason for a bayonet lug on the 551 SWAT since the barrel is too short for a bayonet to mount.
Pxt7916
Hey Mongo. I'm planning to switch out to a 551 Long Barrel so that's why I'm looking for the bayonet lug.
pstidan
There are so many more accessories you will want. You'll need a SIG sight adjustment tool after you swap out the barrel. I'm not referring to the pocket knife tool, but the original version. You will need a clip on brass deflector, just because. A Swiss Meili case, whatever version, will set you back at least $1k. If you find a Safety Case, you will need to find a Bolt Carrier Box as it does not come with the case. An original Swiss butt stock cheek riser will set you back $400. It is not needed if you are wanting to attach a small scope to the scope rail already attached to your rifle.
Pxt7916
Oh I didnt know that they were called Meili case! But yes, that's what i was looking for!!! And yes, looking for that cheek riser as well! As for the other accessories, I have never even seen or heard of them! Sight adjustment tool, clip on brass deflector, bolt carrier box....I haven't even seen them and I'm guessing it's rare that people sell those too huh? Pxt7916
Also, does anyone know if it's worth to swap out the 14.3 inch barrel with extension to a 16" long barrel? I really want to do it because I like the look of it. But I was wondering does it devalue the rifle in anyway and if anyone knows how much to swap out barrel? I know Estes or Mike Otto are the guys to do it but just wanted to see if anyone had experience doing that and if it's going to cost an arm and leg/ worth it. pstidan
So many questions/comments and so little time. Before you attempt any barrel changes, you need to choose the gunsmith who does the swap carefully. If you wish to do it yourself you will need a pair of SIG Swiss 550 receiver vice blocks and a detailed copy of barrel swap instructions. Read and re-read those instructions carefully. I would contact Estes Adams to do the work as he has had years of SIG rifle experience. As for "Meili". That's the name of the Swiss company who manufactures the 550/551 cases. There are the three versions of Meili SIG 550/551 cases. The largest is for a 550 Sniper with its long barrel and scope attached. The mid-sized Universal case will hold a 550/551 with a scope attached. There is a compartment to the right of the rifle meant to hold the butt stock cheek riser. The third and smallest case is the Safety case. It holds a 550/551 without a scope attached. Unlike the other two cases, you must remove the rifle's bolt carrier assembly and bolt handle to fit a rifle into a Safety case. As for changing a SWAT barrel for an LB barrel; the rifle's value would be increased because it would not need to be registered as an SBR. When you get an LB barrel, choose one with the gas block already installed. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll post pics of a sight adjustment tool, brass deflector, and Safety case bolt carrier box. There is also a brass catcher which works pretty well. I am curious as to how you can own a SIG 551 living in New York?
Pxt7916
I'm a LE officer in upstate NY so that's why I can own the sig 551. But my sig 551 has the extension from Mike Otto so thats why it doesnt need to be sbr since it's over 16". Therefore that's why I'm asking if it's worth putting the long barrel on because I like the way it looks but wasnt sure if switching out the original barrel+extension hurts the rifles originality. Also what's the reason for getting the LB with the gas block on it? Easier swap? Forget to ask, does sigs 551/550 with LE markings worth less than ones without? It seems like people want the ones without LE markings. Edited April 28, 2019 by Pxt7916
pstidan
A factory installed gas block is correctly timed to the barrel. Top dead center of the sight base is top dead center on the barrel. As for LE markings or not, condition means everything. I am assuming your rifle is marked for .223. Your barrel's exterior at the chamber should be .223 marked and there should be a groove machined around the barrel's exterior at the chamber area. mafiamanj15
I'd highly recommend checking out JDI (John Doe Investigations) Firearms who imports new SG550/551/552/553 firearms, parts, and accessories directly from Switzerland. He's got a lot of the parts you're looking for like cheek risers, bayonet lugs, and slings, but some of the parts are on a backorder so you may have to wait a month or two to get them. Dave is a great guy to deal with though, I just recently bought some SG550 parts from him. https://www.shop.jdifirearms.com/main.sc Also, if you're desperate for LEO marked SG55X mags, https://www.gatewoodsupplyco.com has them in stock, I've bought lots of HK stuff from Benjamin the guy who runs it and have never had any issues whatsoever. So I'm assuming swapping out the 14.3" barrel + extension to the 16" long barrel is not worth it and devalues the rifle? Considering you would be taking what I assume is an all matching gun and swapping the barrel out with one that doesn't match, yeah that would probably devalue it to some extent. If you really want a long barreled 551, JDI has a 551 Long Barrel "conversion kit" made by Swiss Arms Neuhausen (SAN) that is basically a barreled receiver without the bolt assembly. That way you could save your original barreled receiver, and just swap out the bolt assembly and your 551 Lower assembly. It will need to be shipped to an FFL though. https://www.shop.jdifirearms.com/551-Conversion-kit-w-o-receiver-LB-SANSG551LB.htm Edited May 2, 2019 by mafiamanj15
Pxt7916
Thanks! Also, on the reciever of my rifle, it says .223. It can handle 5.56 too right?

Yes, that shouldn't be a problem at all. Most European countries test their barrels and chambers to CIP standards which are able to withstand higher pressures compared to the SAAMI standards used in the U.S. (62,000 PSI vs. 55,000 PSI). I have an old Steyr AUG that is marked .223 and it is able to handle 5.56 just fine. I've even heard of some foreign gun manufacturers marking them .223 even though they are really chambered in 5.56 NATO just so they would have a better chance of being imported into the U.S. to prove they are rifles used for a "sporting purpose." Not sure how true that is though. Edited May 3, 2019 by mafiamanj15
