SAR East Show

Already booked my motel. Actually opted to stay OUT of the Harrisburg area and went to York. Found a fabulous motel in York (finally) after several SAR East shows found us in some pretty nasty sleaze bag joints. Mayor of Harrisburg is totally against the NRA and gun owners. Big Bloomburger lover. I don't need to leave my money in Harrisburg for him. York is much different and not far away at all.

my 3 cents.

Last year was the reboot show in my opinion.  I did hear mix reviews but I found a bunch of things I was looking for and left with a lot less cash.

It would be nice to see some of the big names there this year.  Such OOW and Gordon with HK specialist.

Besides buying stuff, getting to look at the collection of machine guns Historic Arms Corp brought alone made the trip worth while for me.

It was great. Didn't go with a buy list but some deals DID pop up. 8mm A4 barrels for one. Turns out they were original 8mm Israeli... bought 'em all. Found an original Lewis Lead remover tool kit with several calibers inside and 80-90 screens. Even found Polycases' ARX ammo. Bought a box just to say I did...(sheesh, when's the last time I ever bought one box of anything?).

I WAS surprised by the quarter mile long line to get in. Haven't seen a line like that in decades, if ever. One of the entrance nazis told me I couldn't bring a camera in...then he wasn't sure... then he said go ahead and try.... which I did. Draped around my neck, chest high and... nobody looked twice. Wasn't hiding a thing. No problemo. Lots of cool stuff, even bought some "slim jim" clones that were damn good. Found a bunch of cool stuff, ran into a bunch of old friends, made some new friends. Even listened to a cool dude trying to hawk some anti-energy jewelry. Doubt the technology, but some of it did look pretty nice... if I was into jewelry. Heck, I don't even wear my wedding ring. Fingers with rings don't last long in factories and I don't do bling, I ain't no Richard Rawlings or Guy Ferrari.

I know I said I wasn't going to spend any money In Harrisburg because of the asshat mayor and his anti-gun attitude, but we did end up at the Brewery just down the road on the advice of Charlie Logan and I gotta say, it was a damn fine feed. Complete with dancing girls, band and a fine selection of local brewed beer. Fat, wobbly and tired, we headed down to York to the hotel.

Damned fine weekend. Thanks, SAR.

I think I missed you shattered, I was standing at James Coots table talking about some of his items when you went by. He said your name and it didn't click till you had moved on that was likely you. I agree it was a pretty good show, I'm not sure where you are from but the lines have always ended up being that long for most of the local shows, both York and Harrisburg. It was a good turn out, most of the dealers I spoke with said they were pleasantly surprised with the number of customers. There were certainly some deals to be had if you knew what you where looking for.

I'm from Northern Ohio. Mebbe the fact we have 4 to 5 gun shows every weekend to hit that going to a show isn't such a big deal. It's not like there is just one show a month or anything. I USED to go to 1-2 shows a week, but now I only hit up an Ohio show maybe 2-3 times a year. Not really looking for anything new. I have a list and none of it can really be bought at shows. The internet is really my best friend now. That's why shows for me are now more of a social event. OGCA, the Creek, Eden VT and now SAR East.

I went and had a good time. I was disappointed more vendors were not there! No OOW or AA (MG24.com) or IMA....etc. I really enjoyed those that did show up, like US Armament. I bought one guy out of Maxim parts. I then headed down to the Antique show in Maryland. I actually got a great deal there too! Two M16 Edgewater buffers for $15! It was not as good as old SAR shows but still the best show around by far.

I love that Dodge City Steak house! We have gone there twice now and will go there every year they continue to have this show! Just an awesome steak and great food in general! I highly recommend it.
