For the first 16 1/2 years after launching Sturmgewehr.com in June, 1999, the website looked almost exactly the same.  Except for the 3 different website icons, and some minor background software updates that were available while the legacy software remained supported, the site appeared the same as it did on the first day it was launched.  We kept the old format much longer than expected.

Sturmgewehr.com was founded to carry on the tradition of the FJ Vollmer site - to provide a place for folks to buy/sell/talk about guns in a lively but friendly atmosphere.  The internet has changed a bit since those days, so everybody has had to become a little more hardened and cautious, but we remember our roots.  We want to return to them as much as we can, leveraging powerful new capability that a board software like this one can provide.  Sturm launched immediately upon the closure of the Vollmer site, and it remains extremely well known in the firearm community, and ubiquitous to the NFA community.

We hope you will like and explore the new capabilities.  Many of you may already be familiar with this type of format, particularly if you are a member of our sister board, Machinegunboards.com.  MGBoard members will be able to log in to Sturm using their existing credentials.

There's more to come in the transition, but the immediate change you will notice is that it's easier to post with pictures, and that you must use a member login to post.  If you stopped frequenting Sturmgewehr.com in the past, we hope you will take a fresh look.  It looks a little different, but we are confident that in short time, it will become a welcomed change.

New and easier rules have been posted.  We now have one advertising banner that will be available for up to 5 Admiral level supporters.  This is necessary to help support the site.

As the new board progresses, we will post updates, and tutorials that will help everyone become more familiar with the additional features.

I frequented these boards during your transition from Vollmer's site (as an FFL dealer prior to becoming a manufacturer). I've always preferred to buy and sell on Sturmgewehr, as opposed to other similar sites, regardless of format. Much less corruption and cronyism here which is a testimonial to the people behind the scenes running the show. Change is not always easy to accept, however, it appears that your new configuration is a Hell of a lot more sophisticated and full of bells and whistles, making this a welcomed upgrade. Creating an account, signing in to post, and other security measures now in place, will definitely impede the Scammers (foreign and domestic) that constantly plague our community. Buddy can be a real pain in the ass sometimes but, like a good Drill Instructor, he will "school you" and you'll probably find yourself admitting that you're better off in the end as a result of the occasional ass-kicking concerning an incorrect post. You guys run a tight ship and I hope that we never see this site devolve, as so many others have, to a network of friends that tend to favor some over others. This site is as close to Everyone being Equals, as far as I've ever encountered on the internet. Wishing all the good people here, continued success, health, happiness and prosperity.

Andy and David.

Thank you both forthe new site together. Daunting task I'm sure.

Listing of prices in the title is currently optional (especially with multi-item listings). In reality, if listing the price in the subject line helps an item sell faster, then it really is in the best interest of the seller to do so - therefore it is the sellers decision.  As opposed to making a steadfast rule that all titles must list prices, but then breaking the rule when you include 15 items in the ad and can't list those prices in the subject, we have opted to relax the rules and let the listers advertising style help determine their success.

The same concept applies to the WTS tag ... If an items is on the NFA Ad list, then it is assumed that it is for sale, unless preceded by a WTT to WTB.

Finally found the page about it. Looks like the paid ranks are for Commercial uses. I am not a business. Just like to sell some excess stuff. I am very glad to see the new format as just could not follow conversations in that old format. I would just use the ad pages. Thanks!

Now that I have revived from passing out, this is a great change.

I guess we can go back to the old days of Vollmer when you priced a gun $500 to high and had to put on a flame retardant suit!!!!  LOL

Thank you for your hard work on this.

I already miss the "price in title" rule. Saved a lot of clicks.

Philasteen,

Feel free to post prices in the titles of your ads.  It is not required, but it is recommended, if possible.  It may not be reasonable to expect to include prices in all ads, especially those that have multiple items for sale.

The intent is to make it easier to post, and allow the seller to determine the best way to market their items for sale.

Are there any rules about commentary on sale threads?

I'm sure there are pros and cons, but so far I'm liking the board changes a lot.

Positive comments are permitted (i.e. Sweet gun, only ever seen 1 before), as well as clarifying comments, etc (or saying that you bought it); however comments criticizing posters on prices, etc. are not allowed.

Andy I really appreciate the new look.  It is easy to read and it looks like people like it.  I do miss Buddy deleting posts that don't have the price included in the title.  It really does save time when you are browsing and don't have to take the time to open up a post that is priced too high.

Gentlemen:

I have lurked this board for years benefiting from the knowledge of its members as I prepared to build my NFA collection. Board upgrade looks and operates smoothly. Registration was flawless. I look forward to adding to my knowledge and collection through this leader site in the NFA market.
