MP5
Can you post close-up pics of the markings on the mag well and on the moderator? Does the moderator have a "Colt" serial number or an ATF-issued/stamped serial number? (Like "ATF xxxx")

The XM177 was deemed a silencer per the ATF because the ATF stated it had baffles inside that lower the dB eating of the firearm, even if Colt's original intention was only to increase back pressure for reliability reasons. You will see one Form for a "Silencer" with serial number ATF 456XXX.
SAMMY!
In 1976 ATF required the moderators to be registered as suppressors or exchanged for flash suppressors due to 4db sound reduction when 2db sound reduction is legal limitation. Seller is correct about these being two stamp guns. One for the machinegun, one for the suppressor. SAMMY!

Actually I believe the intent of the moderator was to disguise the sound signature of the CARs used by special forces to sound more like standard rifle fire during Vietnam
SAMMY!
Both purposes. Reliable cycling and disguising sound. Barrel was extended from 10" on Colt XM177E1 and GAU5/A to 11.5" which also allocated use of XM148 and M203 grenade launchers. SAMMY!
