AaronD
I have tried Fightlight's standard bolt catch as well as their Extended Bolt catch (don't waste your money). It is almost impossible to clear a misfed in the prone or locking the bolt back to the rear with 100-200rds hanging on the gun. Had my local gunsmith design a one piece bolt catch, ensuring it would have clearance for the mag release and anti-roll pins. He was able to modify an existing bolt catch. End result is pretty good, works better than expected. I don't care what it looks like just that it functions. Works with UpTight boxes and no issues with standard MCR 100rd nut sack mount. I am getting another for a friend of mine. taylorwso
I heated/ bent the original catch out and snaded it down, then I did this a long time ago to my ARs: simple cut with a mill (or dremmel in my case). weld a piece of 1/8 rod and bend it.= Ambi bolt catch So much better than the BADs and other mods
AaronD
Looks great, not doing that to my transferable Colt receiver.
Ryo
I installed a Phase 5 extended bolt release and cut the top. Then added a little JB Weld to give it more rigidity. Works great. I need to did this so I could swap between uppers/calibers. Note I took more material than I needed but it works the way I want.
Toad
I just got a DPMS Tactical bolt release and cut off the top and I have never had any problems using it to hold the bolt back when I was clearing stoppages...

The issue is that it isn't as easy to perform a release of the bolt. Holding the bolt isn't too difficult. Releasing the bolt isn't as easy, though looks like you can get your finger behind this lever and pull it. Phase 5 lever for the MCR would be much more easier to work with that your design.

That picture is deceiving as I'm holding the catch "up" when I let it down it has enough room to work Edited February 4, 2021 by taylorwso

That's a really bad photo! Yes that definitely would work then.
Toad
I've never had a problem releasing the bolt using the catch in the 12 years I've owned my Shrike...
