Fightlight MCR bolt catch sucks

I have tried Fightlight's standard bolt catch as well as their Extended Bolt catch (don't waste your money).  It is almost impossible to clear a misfed in the prone or locking the bolt back to the rear with 100-200rds hanging on the gun.  Had my local gunsmith design a one piece bolt catch, ensuring it would have clearance for the mag release and anti-roll pins.  He was able to modify an existing bolt catch.  End result is pretty good, works better than expected. I don't care what it looks like just that it functions.  Works with UpTight boxes and no issues with standard MCR 100rd nut sack mount.   I am getting another for a friend of mine.  Passing on their information, paying forward to the NFA community, I don't make a dime, Stumpies Custom Guns, 910-617-7723.

I installed a Phase 5 extended bolt release and cut the top. Then added a little JB Weld to give it more rigidity. Works great. I need to did this so I could swap between uppers/calibers.

Note I took more material than I needed but it works the way I want.

I just got a DPMS Tactical bolt release and cut off the top and I have never had any problems using it to hold the bolt back when I was clearing stoppages...

This is what I use with both my MCR / Shrike uppers...has always worked great.

The issue is that it isn't as easy to perform a release of the bolt.  Holding the bolt isn't too difficult. Releasing the bolt isn't as easy, though looks like you can get your finger behind this lever and pull it.

I heated/ bent the original catch out and snaded it down, then I did this a long time ago to my ARs:

simple cut with a mill (or dremmel in my case). weld a piece of 1/8 rod and bend it.= Ambi bolt catch

So much better than the BADs and other mods

This modification won't work for the MCR unless you cut the top of the release. Phase 5 lever for the MCR would be much more easier to work with that your design.

It works just fine, and you don't have a huge chuck of metal flap getting snagged.

That picture is deceiving as I'm holding the catch "up" when I let it down it has enough room to work

Oh I think I see the sliver of the original bolt catch now that you mentioned it.  That's a really bad photo!
Yes that definitely would work then.
