Plain Jane 07 transfer question

So after 25 years my go to FFL in Manassas Va has sold off his business and moved on to other things. I've used Bernie at Virginia Arms since the day he opened for business. His service was unparalleled. Usually the day anything I bought that arrived by UPS or Fed Ex at Virginia Arms, by 1-2pm that day I got a call or email from Bernie telling me the item was ready for pickup.

There are a core group of friends I shoot with and at times when I buy a something , some of the others buy the same gun. Currently there were 3 of us buying this same rifle from Buds.

So I recommend we all use this new guy. We all place our orders with Buds and they have an FFL locator.  I pick a guy within 5 miles of my home, thinking close is good, less travel time. The very day I place the order this guys sends an email saying he will be out of town he'll be back on 4/15. Two days later still no call, no return emails. The rifles has been there 5 days, the others ae calling me since they can't get in contact with the ghost FFL. I'm feeling like an ass now for making a blind recommendation.

I'm starting to get a tad annoyed. He says on his website he's open for business every day fro 9-4, but that's b.s. because he has a fulltime job, I've discovered. This has always been a problem for me, the hobbyist FFL. I've been in business for 40 years. I'm open for business Monday-Friday 5-5. If you call I answer, if you schedule a service time, I'm at the location waiting for you.

WTF is it with these "hobbyist" FFL's claiming to be a full time business, when they're really not a full time business?

Thoughts on what you think response time for FFL transfers to customers should be ?

Mike, what are your thoughts on this matter?

Im good friends with my FFL so I have little issue but I would think 1 day for contact, 3 days at most for  pick up availability. What's he's charging?

It's been over a week today. He charges $27 a  transfer. Turns out this clown has a full time job, at another gun store (wonder if that owner knows, I think he's going to find out after all this B.S.) . He claims he's open from 9-5 Monday-Friday, total b.s. he has no employees.

He lists a bogus address on his webpage and only gives you the correct address when he tells you what time you need to show up. So basically he's holding your stuff hostage until he calls you, and you accommodate HIS schedule. He works for another gun shop 6 days a week, and of course none of this is mentioned on his webpage or by Buds Gun Shop.

All the contact has been me calling him, no calls from him except to answer my 2 calls. He says he only has 1 hour available tomorrow at 10:30am after waiting 8 days already...like I have nothing better to do in the middle of a work morning.

If I can't make that time he can't be available for 7-10 more days!! Never again. Absolutely the worst transfer experience I'm had in 40 years.

WTF??

R.L. chalk up another bad reason to "live another day" and suffer the best parts of the "NEW WORLD ORDER"  I have a feeling this newbie is posting like he is in order to have a little protection from the ATF must have reg bus hours  line on the license app? the only answer is the obvious conclusion he forced you to come to, NO MORE! I am sure you friends will understand you had the best intentions and no control over the yeh who any how. I don't know an answer and there certainly isnt an easy fix!      when I moved here from AZ, I just knew there would be no problem finding an easy going established FFL holder and a class 3 dealer.   NOT!  keep in mind , I play HARD on the major auction circuit and 30/50 title one wins is quite common. all I could find were dealers in major shopping centers that wanted $50 and up to $100 PER GUN! and my class 3 stuff just sat while I looked for someone within 200 miles I could trust. several suggested this one NFA dealer so I hooked up with him and the first item to clear was a suppressor given to me as a gift. it was a NIB titanium 30 cal. when I went to pick it up it was obvious it had been used and a LOT! with 4 guns pending I just bit my lip and started looking again. while picking up parts from a local manufacturer, I opened up and cried my eyes out. they agreed to handle all my future class 3 and because they don't do anything with used guns gave me a contact for a local retired trooper for the standard stuff. he just charges me by the shipment and not by the piece. it often is less than $10.00 per gun, so now I am in fantastic shape. until some one moves on or quits.  wish I could hep ya ! mike

R.L. after responding to your post as I spent my normal night in and out of the world last night much more came to mind. this type of performance or personal interaction would not have been possible prior to WW II except in a socialist society where it has always been the norm. I don't have the answers but do believe exposure to socialist thoughts allows a gradual change and acceptance much like cursing or smoking in front of your parents gets easier each time after you go out on your own.  the constant degrading is inevitable . remember how insulted you were the first time some political idiot mentioned UBI ? now its fairly common and seems to be the base political platform of several "hopefuls" currently ranting in the public domain. I don't really see a fix and my crystal ball has scenes of MONKEY'S climbing around collapsing WASHINGTON federal buildings as the forest reclaims the ruins like they do in SRI LANKA on national geographic. what occurs between now and then is the great unknown, but it WONT be 2 different color uniforms advancing on each other in some pasture with muzzle loaders for damned sure. what is the latest number of  AR-15's , 7million? posting like minded folks on these chat boards wont help either. the possibility of talking out a solution has long passed all it can do is strengthen ones resolve.
