  1. In the early 1980's, the Tennessee Squadron of the Confederate Air Force (now known as the Commemorative Air Force) offered two specially engraved Colt Custom Gun Shop Government Model Mk. IV, Series 70, .45 ACP caliber handguns as a fundraising effort. A number-matching pair of these pistols is being offered in this auction. One pistol commemorated the Confederate Air Force (shipped in 1982) and was of a limited edition of 100 guns (it is not known by the Seller if all 100 guns were actually produced as specific CAF numbers could be requested). One pistol commemorated the Confederate Air Force Silver Jubilee (25 years 1957-1982) (shipped in 1983) and was a limited edition of 50 guns (it is not known by the Seller if all 50 guns were actually produced as specific CAF numbers could be requested). Both pistols came with a velvet-lined, fitted wood display case with appropriate descriptive plate on the lid. They have matching CAF serial numbers: the CAF Commemorative Edition has number 080CAF; the Silver Jubilee Commemorative Edition has number CAF 080. These two guns are in the original shipping boxes, in the original gun boxes, in mint condition, never fired (except for any mandatory test firing at the factory) with all packing material, tags and literature present as it left the Colt Custom Shop 35 years ago. The pictures show the artwork: a stunning representation of actual CAF aircraft including a portrait of Col Culpepper, with images of a P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk, B-29 Superfortress fighter formations with a P-38 Lightning, F4U Corsair and bomber formations with B-17 and B-24 . The included Colt records letters list the production details for the pistols. Discoloration in the pictures is simply factory oil still on the pistols. $3,800.
