  1. jim / guys it looks like several mfgrs make these things i see one now from lyman. while cabellas offers it, mine came from midway and was the same price.. i bought 2 packages of pins and the switchable magnet which is fantastic for cleanup.. they market it to clean brass fast along with a liquid cleaner. i use it completely dry to clean up rust and plan to use water and a capful of joy d wash shop to clean the pins. i just tumbled a group of rings and other small parts with rust and a bunch of nooks that would be hard to get at. again , they came out PERFECT so don't be afraid to try something. please post any secrets you find while playing. cheers mike
  2. WTS: MG42

tried to resist but have to get my 2 cents worth in now, FIRST when it comes to this stuff MR NAESS is THE MAN and one should PAY HEED whether you like it or not! until 2000 or so I never had any problem establishing C+R status, IF THE MANUFACTURER ON THE PAPER WORK STATED THE ORIGINAL COUNTRY OF ORIGIN , GOVERMENT ARSENAL ETC. in the never ending "quest" for profit . the stated games began and the ATF TECHNOLOGY folks were not fooled, so now WE ALL PAY THE PRICE I am in the middle of a mess you would not believe and have several transfer's that have been tied up more than 3 years and no end in sight! all involve 100% legit weapons that had previously transferred as C+R'S the REALLY SAD THING HERE IS ALL THE EGO that has taken over . I don't understand why someone has to mount a full offensive when offered information that corrects a mistake as this post had been offered before I was tempted to advise that the mount was NOT a"YUGO-53" ADAPTED, BUT INFACT A POST WAR mg-3/ 42 MOUNT . I chose to leave it be for fear of reprisal. we should all feel free to offer what we believe to be correct information to each other IN THESE FORUMS!!!!! and Always accept correction with GRACE. COME ON, LETS KEEP THE SARCASTIC RESPONSES AT HOME. (she probably deserves them) cheers mike
  3. some posts have mentioned a "personal messenger" on this board , but I have not been able to locate it or any other private connection without doing a couple of posts then going to private email. what did I miss? thanx mike
  4. Helpful info on an FNC

NACE, i agree they are well built. i have both the folder and fixed variation in the collection and do enjoy taking them for a walk time to time. for a while they were quite reasonable compared to other .223/556 MG's other than firing pins and a few VERY expensive Swedish variation's of furniture you wont find any parts. also optics can be a challenge. you mentioned you were a first time buyer? unless the price is VERY APPEALING i would suggest you search for a converted AR-15 COLT registered push pin lower. the only problem you will have with parts and acc is your wallet. if something breaks at least you have an option. in 1978 i had a bolt bounce explosion in my MG-42 and destroyed the extractor. a gun was around $500 back then. after more than a year of searching i had to pay an aerospace co $1000.00 to make 10 replacements. of course now they are less than $10 but with the political climate being what it is don't count on much NEW stuff finding its way into our market place. it will take a long time to use up all the spares for the colt system out there welcome and good luck with your choice mike
  5. Problems for MG Owners in future

I have been at this a long time and endured a lot of changes in what was acceptable or not . prior to the gun control act becoming law, visiting the local branch to get forms or answers was about the same as visiting the state game and fish office for maps etc. form 4 information requirements were informal and varied AFTER GCA-68 the jack boots went on and all hell broke loose and we became adversary's . my assertion was if an unregistered receiver could put me in jeopardy , that's ALL that was required to be registered and the rest was non of their business.. all of my form 4's from that period have "N/A" for over all length and brl length. maker was "govt arsenal from country in question" even my ar15 forms show that and i was never called to question over it. most of my guns were purchased b4 1968 by me and put in my father or uncles name due to my age. when i turned 21 i paid the trans tax and put them all in my name and had no trouble. when i finally managed to buy my M-60's they kicked the forms back and required oal and brl be on the forms. now i hear there are issue's with details like "swing down" and push pin recievers etc. again i contend the controlled item is all "they" control by law and we must jump through the hoops to get approval. but after that if i want to paint it yellow, put a hole in it its still registered and comply's with the law rulings be damned. what they get away with now is almost criminal!! we are at the mercy of someones mood that changes from day to day. at the 2014 poulin auction i bought 2 costa rican breda 30 mg's from the same 1938 contract 3 serial #'s apart. both were trans to the museum as C+R. i filled out form 4's with C+R info. one was approved one not and the forms defaced with big red letters. i just sent the 4th set of forms in and am still waiting??? until they have to answer to someone this will continue and i feel it will only get worse? mike
  6. MP43/STG44 Hammer Pin Removal

jack, I have a spare in my bin. would be glad to loan it for a reverse engineer job if that helps no its not for sale ! but glad to help if I can cheer's mike
  7. YOU CAN RELAX !! while it can be tough to do family friend deals and come out with any self respect, you WON this time ! its hard to tell from the pics but you have a MINIMUM value of $3500 easy. if the finish on the gun has not been messed with and the rest is matching it will bring even more, in my opinion the value is as follows, DWM 1917 artillery luger $1200/ $1500 + holster min $150 , snail drum if functional and not repo $1750/$2500, stock w/lug $500/$750 while the new grips would create a major distraction, at recent rock island and Julia auctions packages like yours have brought an average of $4500 . a drum alone $2600 and a stock $900. these are all + 15% buy premium if there is a loading tool hiding under the holster flap and its orig you can add $350 to $1k again its tough to evaluate with more details I tried to stay on the LOW side . good job!! mike
  8. Going Rate for 30-06 AP?

one of the most important things to consider when determining the value is who made it, THEN when and condition, a great deal of the FN A. P. (along with others) will not fire or will "hang fire" due to primer issue's. and only worth the projo. most bad will date from 57 thru 66 but other dates can let you down also . good clean U.S. seems to move at $1.25 /$1.50 but sealed spams of non corr U.S.will bring more sometimes. I have a SEVERAL K rnds if you find a good cust. cheers mike
  9. yup crack did the job 4 me while typing the post and I certainly know how to confirm billing at this stage of my life sadly the price was confirmed by customer service and theirs was ineffective, strange but NO CONTACT since I informed them I would not be sending payment? maybe they are planning some advanced night ops to collect ? as for what I was to send you ? I am at a loss, are you the gent that purchased my PKM? if so during that time I was using a secure pay email account. when I cancelled it, I had no access to any mail thru that source and could not reach you, the belt is still sitting on the shelf along with another new combat can and belt as an apology. send me your ship to, along with delivery details the day we met to confirm I have the right gent and you will get it this time. email is myoldiron@outlook.com mike
  10. I found these folks with a google search "gunstock duplicating" got them on the phone and discussed making new stocks for my 1922 turk Hotchkiss. as its not a sample , I figured it was worth the investment to get rid of that old dry wood they all suffer from. they had all the right answers and sounded great so I boxed up some samples with a work order. made several attempts to contact and discuss costs but they had done nothing and couldn't price it. after a couple months and no contact, I get an email work is finished please call. I called and they wanted to know about finish on the metal, still had no costs ready. they require you fill out a very detailed work order and send it in with the sample to be copied. I was very specific that I wanted a "military grade open grained plain walnut butt stock and knots were even allowable, see where this is going? create 2 new butt stocks with pistol grips @ $3200.00 ea $6400.00 6 forend grips @ $50.00 $300.00 6 carry handle grips @ $ 50.00 $300.00 Parkerizing $200.00 tolal less shipping $7200.00 needless to say , I was floored. I have never been here before and don't quite no what to do other than the obvious IGNORE IT FROM NOW ON and loose my parts which thank god were extra and life moves on. now even if the come to their senses and offer the right price , I wouldn't dare trust them to ship after I paid. is there some type of "escrow payment" you can do which protects me? I have never refused to complete me end of an order or deal but this situation demands it main thing is BEWARE THESE FOLKS thoughts/ feedback appreciated ! thanx mike
  11. What was your first major Machine Gun Shoot?

anyone here ever attend any of ralph wong's " marana" Tucson shoots in the 60'S and 70's ? Czech 9mm would not sell at .03 rnd then . 8mm was less than .05. these were unbelievable in the quantity of ammo fired but the exotic "PYRO" AND BIG BANG targets were NOTHING compared to today. a lot of cannons were always present . my last one took a 2 ton bobtail to carry ammo only and usually at least a crate of 20mm would go through my lahti. maxims were set up for the lady's and ammo was free to them the whole shoot. IT WAS TAKEN FOR GRANET AT THE TIME, but what a privilege to be with the "legends" like DOLF GOLDSMITH or be next to BOB FARRIS while he emptied his endless supply of loaded belts and mags. then watch as he removed the top cover from another shooters stoner, wedge it in a rear bumper and stomp it with his foot. of course it ran flawless after wards!! due to business concerns I was forced to limit my big shoots to the 3 day's of 4th july and we always took at least 1 full pickup of 70% dynamite . in az fireworks were forbidden but an explosives card was easy took less than 5 min to get, then you were totally free from there. can you imagine doing I-10 with 40 cases of Dyno and no lead or back vehicle TODAY? highway patrol found large hole in the road with scattered metal north of phoenix and determined it was a load of dyno. after a few days they finally ID'd the guy and it was downhill from there. my last shoot at I-10 and miller road was "visited" by nat guard in helo, and DPS . even though the line was apprx a mile in and not visable, traffic was at a standstill westbound on I-10 due to spectator's parking in the safety lane. the video's of on duty law enforcement shooting on the line while "investigating" the event are priceless. that land is state trust land and open for recreation we did the 4th shoot at that location for more than 10 yrs then it was developed too close for comfort .trespass rights in Arizona are hard for others to comprehend , but basically if there is a road ANYONE can proceed, if no occupied houses are present you can set up and shoot. AND WE DID!! a major part of the state is trust land. if you possess a valid hunting lic, you have the "right" to use it . the current shoots are great due to the safety and variation of targets presented but the friendship is a bit too "clicish" for lack of a better term. seems like folks are in competition of who knows who and who has what. I attended the firepower shoot at the SOF convention , MR KOKALIS'S SPEECH to the media was so offensive to me( and others) that we left not wanting to be a part of THAT ATTITUDE. knob creek needs no help from me its fantastic for the spectator's and certainly helps keep things going in a positive direction even though attendance and round count is down that's only because of the cost of ammo and travel today along with the prospect of finding new products imported. I hope to find something in texas SOON that will help me excersise some of these tools and get rid of a BUNCH A BULLETS cheers mike
  12. MP43/STG44 Hammer Pin Removal

I have used "e " clips in several applications and never had a problem. it will certainly make the system user friendly but wiil be very obvious. you can always go back to the original design at a later date. I say go for it
  13. ZB26 Demand

yup cincylance hit it spot on! there has been some exceptional condition ZB 26's in recent auctions at $27 / $35k a Nazi marked 30 went for more than that. nothing was posted or advertised for a long time but a couple crudely refinished examples at $25k which finally disappeared somewhere. the interest is always there for the good condition
  14. M1 Carbine Magazines

ron, I suggest you visit the carbine collectors club. david albert one of the owners of this site is a member and posted a link to join is how I found it. those guys know their stuff with NO BULL and will set you straight. for my two cents worth I don't have mags in front of me to tell you the markings but over the years its become easy to tell them at a glance due to how the metal is joined at the rear. some of mine are marked SEY, which I have assumed is seymore mfg. most are not marked I got all my carbine stuff in the late 50's and early 60's thank god before the aftermarket craze took hold and are unquestionably original. in a lo tof parts I got at rock island auctions I found 40 or so what I'm told are European surplus 30 rnd mags from govt arsenals a few have AY and others have AYO stamps . they are equal to my USGI 30's.and run perfect in my guns, while the springs hold up well. I have seen them for sale at the creek so must be available.. important to know NONE OF THE M2 MARKED MAGS ARE GI. they are after narket and most don't work! I see them offered as USGI originals on gunbrkr often so beware best I can do, maybe david will see your post and set you straight. good luck mike

  16. Best Firearm Publications for Full Auto

DAVID , I cant agree more . while I'm anxious to keep up with all the latest trends and new gizmo's. straight accurate information on the past is not often available and the new folks along with those of us not so informed can find this information invaluable, possibly leading to a new exciting category to collect. frankly I'm getting tired of the "factual information" thrown at us in a certain publication which seems to be a LOOK AT WHAT I GOT when you get through as the only published source for NFA info and miss the old small arms review. I think this accounts for a lot of the popularity of sturm. a tremendous amount of information gets passed on by knowledgeable folks that have no other venue to share it on KEEP IT UP!!
  17. MP43/STG44 Hammer Pin Removal

jack, I would hope someone has a better solution, but I did 17 rewatts years ago that needed refinish afterwards, I spot drilled the flange out and made new pins then staked them back like original. I still see no way around it?????? good luck mike
  18. sorry but I have NO IDEA HOW THESE NUMBERS GOT SCATTERED? it didn't look like that when I typed it ! mike
  19. WTS reising mod 50 parts kit w/cut rec. NEW !

thanx to all of you that have put up with me and my problems with pictures. to be honest WAY TOO MANY years folding shotgun news when even phone contact was iffy and not expected. BOTTOM LINE? I don't depend on them much when shopping so I didn't realize how important they would be. I did try to answer ALL the emails sent , but several came back "not deliverable". I don't see any way to contact anyone that makes a request without adding to the thread?. all of the kits are gone for now. there are more buried in the container and I will contact everyone that was left out as they show up. also a few used kits and spare parts . individuals that provided a text option will get pics and other details in the order received. direct emails have all been answered to my knowledge. again THANX TO ALL ! mike
  20. offering a complete parts kit from a parkerized mod 50 reising sub machine gun. NOT REBUILT,REFINISHED, BUT NEW AS ORIGINALLY PRODUCED it MAY have been test fired after built, but appears totally unused in every way. BORE / CHAMBER PERFECT. face of bolt PERFECT, no collapsed springs etc. the wood may have a very FEW slight rubs , BUT NO DENTS OR GOUGES. impossible to get any better ANYWHERE!! the rec was torch cut 3 times and all the pieces are included. not cut in any threaded area's. in addition to NO MAGAZINE,one or two of the small pins may be missing , but everything major is included . KITS were the 12 round example and have that mag housing. all swivel's but plate etc. I have several examples as described, along with a few used examples which will be offered after I move these only. asking $1250.00 each plus actual shipping. not offered to California, wash state or any other restricted destinations sadly I have NOT been able to figure out the pic situation here on sturm, but can text to your smart phone and am working on the email option. AFTER SEVERAL REQUESTS FOR PICS VIA EMAIL, I MUST MAKE IT CLEAR THE ONLY OPTION IS TEXT
  21. it seems like a "crap shoot" and time will vary with the different examiner doing the transfer. I have one pending since spring 2013, another from fall 2014 which is a JOKE. I applied for 2 identical breda 30 from the same contract to chile . both had 2 digit serial # and were 4 numbers apart. completely original, no rewatt , etc mfgr listed as Italian govt . one was approved as C+R, the other not. forms were defaced with red ink and no chance to appeal without a totally new package . cleo , prints, check etc.. I complied after7 months got a letter " forms lost" please resubmit . complied again and sent copy of approved form for its brother along with detailed pics of both. now I get , its under review.. I wont mention the other example submitted 4 times due to " lost forms" I cant imagine any other govt agency capable of losing forms how bout my tax bill?
  22. MP40 C&R questions

BRIAN the mp 40 should not present any more challenge than any other type to determine condition. however some issues appear in the majority of examples offered and can be very difficult to correct. we all have our own "pet peeves" . the first thing for me is curb appeal,. how doe's it present itself this seems to be the same for most because the great ones grab you like a magnet and say "take a closer look". next I check the stock assembly for PLAY. if its loose and wobbles its VERY HARD to correct. confirm the original type rear sight spring is present and functions proper. it can break, replacements are almost impossible to get and I have seen several shoddy attempts to get around. one that can get by easy is a bad chamber. look close even if the bore is mint. years ago in france I observed several diff MINT weapons for sale and something had been rammed around in the chamber and throat preventing any firing. at that time if it would not chamber and fire, it was legal . no matter what prevented it. get it in the natural light and look for flaws under the finish, to determine if original or not that's my 2 cents worth. good luck mike
  23. WTS reising mod 50 parts kit w/cut rec. NEW !

it looks like all the NEW kits are going to be gone b-4 I manage to get any pics out. a few respondents actually took my word with a little trust and didn't want to risk getting shut out. I am working on the count and will contact everyone. I wont offer the used kits or much of anything else untill I'm able to post pics. I encountered SEVERAL emails that came back undeliverable so I'm posting here to keep all informed THANX TO ALL CHEERS MIKE
  24. WTS reising mod 50 parts kit w/cut rec. NEW !

struggleing with text pics now. have over 15 requests and some bad private emails seeking professional help and hope to clear this up soon. sorry mike
  25. looking for a NICE .303 portive the mark with the switch for belts or strips only. honest wear not an issue but the receiver must not have ANY rust pits, heavy scratches or heavy dents condition of exterior of balance is flexable but no worn out rewatted / altered examples will be considered. this unit is to fill a spot in the collection . we have several examples of south American contract 1910 Hotchkiss 7x57 models that we plan to sell in the future if you would consider a trade. there are far fewer 7x57 guns in the system ammunition and components are much easier in 7mm if you are a shooter. we will be willing to pay a substantial amount in addition to the right trade. we have 2 different units with the clubfoot wood stock like the U.S. BENET/MERCIE and one example with the british tube L stock from a portive. i still cant post pics via email but can send the by text if you have a smart phone. thanx mike todd
