  1. Directly under the Sturmgewehr.com banner at the top of the page, we have activated the Calendar feature, which is a community calendar for firearm related events.  I have updated it with SHOT, Knob Creek, the NRA Convention, the Tulsa Arms Show, and various Ohio Gun Collectors Association shows.  If you have an event you would like considered for inclusion, such as a machine gun shoot, or a significant gun show, please send me the details, and I'll post them.  I'd like it to be an informative, one stop source where folks can review upcoming events.

You can also change how you view the upcoming events within each month, either by looking at the entire month like a calendar, or as an event stream.  Check it out, and as more events are added, it should be pretty cool.

This is something we didn't have on the old board...

  2. I have no connection to the seller, but just want to say that this book appears to be in very good condition, and the price is reasonable for a Cox book.  I paid $350 for my Cox book about 11 years ago.  The Thompson Patents book as an extra for the price of shipping is worth at least $60, and I've seen them sell for much more than that, because their availability has been spotty over the years.  (I saw one of the patent books sell for $175 several years ago)  So, this would be a good deal for a Thompson collector/historian.

Just my $.02...assuming it is still available...

Simple, but on its deaths bed....

Old Sturmgewehr had 30-ish posts on the NFA board in the last 7 days that it was active ... New Sturmgewehr format has 70+ posts in the past 7 days on the same board.

New board has a much better ability to deal with spammers, username hijacking, and other issues.

So instead of saying RIP Sturmgewehr.com , we can say Viva Sturmgewehr.com

An Analogy: Would you rather be the gun in the middle, or the gun on the top.... They are both cool, and both have their benefits, but only one of these has survived in the market, and many people would be hard pressed to remember the name of the other one.

    Excellent analogy, brother!

    Hi Steve,

Good to see you on the new board!

I hope to run into you again sometime, even though I left Austin almost 10 years ago.  I know Peter still attends the shows there.  Have fun at the SHOT Show.

Hey David, thanks for the heads up! I never got into Machinegunboards.com that far. Didn't realize all the info available. It's a great site and being a NE Ohio boy looks like there are a lot of guys and events to meet and go to with my 2 Westies. You and your brother are really doing a great service. I hope these sites pick up some younger guys to keep these collectables in good working order and out running through 45 ammo.

    Regards,

    James P Gough

    MR 60,

Thanks for the kind words about Machinegunboards.com.

You are probably within 100 miles or so of the heart of Thompson Submachine Gun events and historical study.  This is also the 100th anniversary of the beginning of Auto-Ordnance.

    Buddy,

    Isn't that cool!

We were several points in towards the half track from where your son is pictured.  I still have the badge, and while I'm away from it at the moment, I think we were at point #24.  I'll confirm when I'm home.  The badge still hangs on my bulletin board in my home office.

  7. What was the first major machine gun shoot you ever attended?  For Andy and me, after going to some small shoots in the Austin area, the first major machine gun shoot we attended was what ended up being the last Hill Country Machine Gun Shoot in the San Antonio area (Helotes, TX) in May, 1991.

    We'll never forget it!

  8. I was asked to consider pinning a list of FFLs willing to accept Title 1 firearms resulting from ad sales on this site, and/or others.  If you are an FFL holder who would like your information made available for non-FFLs to receive firearms for transfer to buyers in your area, please reply with your name and/or business name, state, town, and e-mail address, and I will begin to compile a list by state, and pin the post for future reference.

    Here's the latest list, 7/28/19:

  9. Everyone needs to maintain vigilance.  Don't let your guard down.  The new board will definitely help, but it can't stop determined scammers.

BTW, this is not an issue that is limited to Sturm.  We have just discussed it more than other venues.

    Some pointers

    • Don't ever wire money to anyone
    • Don't ever use Western Union for payment
    • Talk to the person you are dealing with on large purchases
    • Deal with known, reputable dealers
    • Know all the terms of sale
    • If the deal is too good, it is probably a scam
    • Get a copy of the Form 4
    • Understand the status and location of any NFA firearm you consider for purchase - Does the dealer have it in their inventory?
    • Get pictures of the item(s) with verifiable content shown in them
    • If they won't provide more verification, don't deal with them
    • Use your common sense...Don't be greedy and end up losing your money to a scammer

I already miss the "price in title" rule. Saved a lot of clicks.

    Philasteen,

Feel free to post prices in the titles of your ads.  It is not required, but it is recommended, if possible.  It may not be reasonable to expect to include prices in all ads, especially those that have multiple items for sale.

The intent is to make it easier to post, and allow the seller to determine the best way to market their items for sale.

  11. Welcome to the new Sturmgewehr.com Ammunition Market Board!  Those of you who have been on the board for any amount of time know that we have only had 4 market boards since the site began on 6/25/99, so this is kind of a big deal.

Ammunition has been sold on the boards in the past, but the appropriate place to post it has always been a best guess effort.  The Parts/Accessories Board made the most sense in the past.  Now you don't have to think about it much...Ammo now has its own board.

When buying/selling ammunition, it is always good to know the following:

    • Is it corrosive?
    • How old is it?
    • Who made it, and what is its country of origin?
    • Is it reloaded?
    • Is it Berdan or Boxer primed?
    • What will it cost to ship it to me?

Buyers should take all appropriate precautions when purchasing ammunition.  Know exactly what you are buying and agreeing to.  If it's surplus ammunition, know that it may have been stored in less than optimal conditions for decades.  But at your own risk.  If you're going to use it in a $30K NFA firearm, you probably only want to shoot well known, commercially available ammunition brands.  Remember, one squib load can be costly and dangerous!

We hope you enjoy the new Ammunition Market Board, and it will help clear space on other boards for items that more closely match the forums in which they are posted.

    Thanks!
