  1. I was driving along I-40 in Nashville this week, and noticed that Palmetto State Armory had purchased very prominently placed billboard space.  I looked online, and apparently they have done this in a few cities.

The billboard says "Good Guys Own Guns Too."

    Palmetto.jpg

Here's an article about one in Kansas City:

    http://www.wsmv.com/story/32071204/good-guys-own-guns-too-says-new-billboard-in-kansas-city

I've placed a couple of orders with them recently, and it makes me want to place more!

    Has anyone else seen one?

  2. The American Thompson Association will have a spectacular display of Thompsons at the NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Louisville, KY this coming weekend, Friday 5/20/16 to Sunday, 5/22/16.  Please come on down to see us in Booth 6647 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.  We will be among many other displays put on by collectors organizations, a couple of which I'm also a member of, such as The American Society of Arms Collectors, and the Ohio Gun Collectors Association.  It's always a great time, and you won't want to miss our display, which has a theme of the 100th Anniversary of Auto-Ordnance.  Yes, it's been 100 years since John Thompson, Theodore Eickhoff, Oscar Payne, and George Goll began work designing a rifle based on the Blish principle, which ended up transforming into the most iconic submachine gun of all time, and probably the most universally recognizable firearm in history.  Stop by and say hello, if you get the chance.

  3. Small Arms Review (SAR) still covers NFA, although their focus has certainly changed in the past 18 months or so to mostly black rifles.  It's not the same as it used to be.  I will say that Dan Shea's article that just came out in the current issue covering possible amnesty scenarios was great.  I really enjoyed reading it.  You can still read some great articles by Frank Iannamico, and Robert Segel, also. There will be some Thompson articles coming out by Tom Davis soon.  I have not submitted an article in a while.  My last one, covering the M1917 Carbine was initially accepted, and then rejected because they were only going to feature one article on historical firearms per issue, and had many in the queue.  Granted, the M1917 is not a machine gun, but I thought that a newly documented, officially sanctioned U.S. small arm of WWII would be something that readers would want to learn about.  I still need to shop the article to other magazines.

  4. Sturmgewehr.com is transitioning to a pay to post advertising site. This has been a long time coming, after remaining a completely free site for almost 17 years.  Hopefully you have adjusted to, and now enjoy the new format features that were put in place beginning on 1/8/16.  We began the next phase of the new Sturm with commercial level members at the beginning of April, and are now prepared to continue with non-commercial (personal) subscriptions.

In the past, we have relied on t-shirt sales, and other promotional items to attempt to offset some of the costs associated with the site, and have personally made up the difference out of pocket.   Since 2004, when we had to transition to a dedicated server and ISP host to accommodate the bandwidth of the site, this has amounted to many tens of thousands of dollars.  We've received some donations from users of this site in the past, and many donations from the extremely supportive members of our sister board, Machinegunboards.com.  We’re quite grateful for all support sent our way over the years.

Our intent with transitioning to a pay to post format is to offset all costs, and hopefully recover some past deficits.  We don't intend to gouge anyone...Non-commercial subscription rates are about what you’d pay for a normal box of .45 ammo, or maybe a mag dump or two out of your favorite MG.  You will see that the subscription rates are very reasonable, and they are necessary to maintain and upgrade the site going forward.  As a personal site subscriber, you have two rank choices…Sergeant, or Lieutenant.  Sergeant is $15/year, and Lieutenant is $20/year.  The main difference is the ability to directly host images on the site, versus remotely hosting images.   Both personal subscription ranks allow you to post as many ads as needed (within the site guidelines).  Please keep in mind that a personal subscription is appropriate for a hobbyist, or someone who is liquidating their personal collection, but is not appropriate for anyone who sells the same item in large quantities, operates under a business name, is selling for profit, or has an FFL other than C&R.

One note about the rank of Corporal…If you have a Corporal rank currently, it means that you were an existing member of Machinegunboards.com when we uploaded the member database to the new Sturmgewehr.com format on 1/2/16.  As such, you can post non-commercial ads for a year (until 1/8/17) before you will need to upgrade your account.  As a Corporal, you have the same posting abilities as a Sergeant.  You may still feel free to upgrade your account now, if you wish.

Again, your support is very much appreciated.

  9. Gorgon,

Mike used to frequent Machinegunboards.com, and posted there 101 times, however it's been since 2011 since he last visited.  His board name there is Mike Venturino, and he can be reached through the PM feature there, if his e-mail address has remained the same as when he registered in 2008.  (Machinegunboards.com is our sister site.)

  10. I have changed your display name.  Please use your original login information.  You can use a file photo for your avatar.  The file size needs to be 60 KB or under, since it's a small image.  When you crop it, leave some room around it, because the image is displayed in a circle, and will cut off the corners.

To the best of my knowledge NJ requires that you have a Retail Firearms license..

If ATF approves your license they notify NJ State Police that you have an FFL

One of the reasons that Sarco moved to Pa. was that NJ refused to renew their state retail license.

Also be advised that short barrelled rifles, short barrelled shotguns, silencers, and slingshots (Yes, slingshots) are prohibited weapons in NJ.

Magazines are limited to 15 rounds. FFL's are OK to have mags over 15 rounds from what I've been told.

If you don't live here, DO NOT move here.

My current employment situation keeps me here. But I'll escape again one day!

I've been within a few hundred yards of NJ on several occasions, and never ventured into the state.  Based on their firearm laws, it's not a state I want to visit.

  12. Sig,

Is the FNX a new acquisition?  I know about the SCARs you bought.  My guess is you're trying to up your hardware selection for the pistol competition portion of a certain shoot we both attend...

All this talk about firearm torque wrenches has me wondering if now I need one...

If you pay for a certain level and then realize half way thru the year you need to upgrade to a higher level do you just pay the difference?

If that happens, you will need to start over again with the purchase of a new rank for another year.  We will not be able to bridge between ranks because it is not within the capability of the software, and it would involve too much time to track manually.  It also would create a disincentive to purchase higher ranks.

In the past, we have relied on t-shirt sales, and other promotional items to attempt to offset some of the costs associated with the site, and have personally made up the difference out of pocket.  Since 2004, when we had to transition to a dedicated server and ISP host to accommodate the bandwidth of the site, this has amounted to tens of thousands of dollars. We don't intend to gouge anyone...You will see that the subscription rates are reasonable, and they are necessary to maintain and upgrade the site going forward.  You can choose your level of support for Sturm by the rank level you choose, which is accompanied by the ability to post a certain number of advertisements on the market board.  The cost per advertisement is low, when divided by the total cost of the rank, and considerably more cost effective than on auction sites.  You may also choose a higher rank to help support the site, even if you don’t intend to use the associated number of market board ads.  Again, your support is very much appreciated.

FYI, all commercial level ranks include the ability to post images directly through the website.  References to Gallery images are for the Gallery section, which is a tab at the top of the page for sharing collection photos.

Sturmgewehr.com is a very effective selling tool, with an audience mostly focused on NFA items.  We hope you are able to interact and profit in a friendly environment where we look out for one another, and share in our hobby and collector interests.

    Sincerely,

    David and Andy Albert
