Was I blacklisted for putting in personal contact information in a pm?
HELP ME PLEASE.  I am 66 years old. I have yet to find the rules to read.  I am LEGIT!

There is a spam service called CleanTalk associated with the software that this site runs on, and if you are seeing a blacklisting tag when you send an email, it is because you are sendng an email through a VPN that has been blacklisted due to issues with various users across the internet.  These can often originate from Amsterdam, Russia, China, among other places.  My suggestion is to use a differently located PC or phone to send the message.  This is not something I can help you troubleshoot, as it has to do with the network that you are personally using wherever you are, and is a built-in security feature of the site to attempt to reduce fraud.

As far as the guidelines, they are located on every page on this site in the white ribbon towards the top of the screen.  The ribbon is located under the "Sturmgewehr" banner in the white colored ribbon that is under the blue colored ribbon.  Please click on "Guidelines" to review them

    Thanks,

    David

  2. Here's an update on Machinegunboards.com, which is one of our sister sites.  We expect that it will be down additional days.  If it is not back up by end of day tomorrow, Friday, 10/21/22, it will be down through the weekend.  It is currently in a queue to be worked by the advanced team at the forum software company.  We attempted to do a similar upgrade the evening of 10/18/22 as we did here on Sturm, but ran into some issues.  We fully expect to have the site back up, it's just a question of the downtime duration.

For Machinegunboards.com members, we apologize for the downtime, and please bear with us.  We will be able to continue talking about Thompsons and other great firearms soon.

    Sincerely,

    David Albert

    Found a minor glitch:

You cannot mark simply one board as read. The mark as read button marks the entire site.

It's a bit inconvenient but easily worked around if you know about it in advance

Interesting.  I had not noticed that.  Thanks for noting it.  I will add it to our list to see if it can be changed.

On the Machinegunboards software update, we have hit some snags, and are having to work with the software company to resolve.  I don't have an ETA for return to service yet.

  4. The total downtime was only 2 hours, so it went well for such a major change behind the scenes.  Andy deserves all the credit.

Hopefully you like some of the new features.  One feature that is really nice is that if you perform a search, the search will return thumbnail photos from posts in the forum that match your search term.  There are many updates behind the scenes, but the forum looks almost exactly the same as before.

Some of the previous features that did not persist to the new version are as follows:

    • The custom modification to mark things sold - We are going to explore another custom development to determine if it can be re-enabled
    • The total number of members statistic at the bottom of the main page was also a custom mod that did not persist

We are currently still working on the upgrade to our sister site, Machinegunboards.com, which has been down since 10pm last night, 10/18/22.

    Thanks for your patience!

  6. Sturmgewehr.com Members,

We are planning a forum software upgrade this week, and there is one part of the upgrade that will produce an unknown amount of downtime.  I expect that it will be at least a few hours, but it could be longer.  We will bring everything back up as quickly as possible.  Once the upgrade is finished, you may see some fluid changes as we get everything fine tuned.  I anticipate that the board will have a different, but similar look.

Thank you for your patience while we perform the upgrade!

  7. I have a rarely seen item for sale that is a British Bren LMG carrying Case, which was made for the possible invasion of Norway after it was occupied by the Germans.  Cases like this were also made for the Thompson SMG.  They were made by the Northern Proofing Co. in Huddersfield, and this one is dated 1944, and features the British Broad Arrow marking.  It's in unissued condition, and has a darker spot on the flap where it was exposed to dirt, but otherwise, it is in very good condition, and is $150, plus USPS Priority Mail shipping to your location.  I've never seen another one of these for sale anywhere, and I received it from a collector friend who lives in England.

I accept PayPal, and checks or money orders, with appropriate consideration.  Ohio residents must add your local sales tax.

  8. Robert Segel was a friend of mine, and "Gorgon" is also a friend.  Although this post is made without prices, I'm allowing it to stay up.  Please contact Gorgon if you have any interest.  Robert participated in many NRA displays with myself and others of The American Thompson Association, and he always liked the guys who made the miniature arms, and who often displayed alongside us at NRA.  I know that he had some miniature items commissioned, and was also awarded NRA silver awards for some of his miniature arms.  Robert is missed, and we were just talking about how much he is missed among several of us at an OGCA meeting yesterday.
